As expected, the US central bank Fed raises the key interest rate by 50 basis points.

This raises the interest rate to 4.25-4.5 percent.

It is a more cautious increase than earlier in November, when they tripled interest rates to the highest level in 15 years.

    The Sweden Democrats want to be involved in deciding who will be the next national police chief in Sweden, write the newspaper Expressen with reference to sources.

    The government and the Sweden Democrats are currently in talks about the management of the country’s authorities and the regulatory letters to be drawn up for next year.

    Peru is facing a state of emergency across the country due to the violent protests that have flared up since the country’s president was ousted last week.

    The exemption permit must be valid for 30 days. According to Defense Minister Alberto Otarola, the cause is “vandalism, violence and roadblocks”, writes TT.

    Ex-president Pedro Castillo was arrested and deposed last week after trying to dissolve parliament.

    Protesters are demanding his release and the removal of his successor.

  • Iran is kicked out of the UN commission

    Iran is excluded from the UN Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW), writes TT.

    This after 29 of the member countries of the UN’s Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc) voted for the proposal, which was put forward by the United States.

    The decision is justified by Iran’s very heavy-handed response to the women-led protests in the country.

  • The Foreign Ministry eases the advice for Myanmar

    The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (UD) changes its advice for Myanmar due to the changed security situation, writes TT.

    Swedes in Myanmar have until now been urged to leave the country, but that invitation was removed today.

    However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs still advises against all travel to Myanmar and that advice applies until further notice.

    Telenor suffered major problems early on Wednesday evening.

  • Georgia’s ex-president is on hunger strike again

    Georgia’s imprisoned ex-president Mikhail Saakashvili has started a new hunger strike after he was not allowed to participate in a court hearing via video link from the hospital, writes TT.

    The former leader has been treated in a civilian hospital for the past few months after going on hunger strike for 50 days in protest against his imprisonment on October 1.

    Several human groups have condemned the imprisonment as politically motivated. Doctors have long warned that Saakashvili’s life is in danger because he has been denied medical treatment.

    But Georgian authorities believe he is receiving the right treatment.

    The human rights organization Amnesty International believes that the treatment of Saakashvili is “obvious political revenge”.

  • Three vehicles in collision – one person taken to hospital

    Three vehicles have been involved in an accident on national highway 68 Fagersta.

    – It concerns a collision between three vehicles. There is at least one truck involved in the accident, says Magnus Jansson Klarin, spokesperson for police region Mitt.

    One person has been taken to hospital. The extent of the damage is unclear.

    At the moment, traffic is at a standstill in both directions, says Magnus Jansson Klarin.

  • Bus and car in collision – one taken to hospital

    The police were called during the afternoon to county road 572 in Arboga after a traffic accident between a bus and a car, the police write on their website.

    – The motorist has had to be taken to hospital by ambulance. The person’s injuries are serious, says Magnus Jansson Klarin, press spokesperson for police region Mitt.

    About 15 people are said to have been on the bus, but according to Magnus Jansson Klarin, there is currently no information that anyone on the bus was injured.

  • Woman found dead in residence

    A woman has been found dead in a home in central Stockholm.

    The alarm came in on Wednesday morning.

    – We have opened a preliminary investigation, but at the moment there is nothing to indicate murder. But we also cannot rule out that a crime has taken place, says Per Fahlström, press spokesperson for the police in the Stockholm region.

    The woman’s relatives have been notified.

    One person has been arrested.

  • Three chimpanzees on the run from Furuvik Park

    Three of the chimpanzees in Furuviksparken, south of Gävle, are currently on the run, writes P4 Gävleborg.

    Two of them have been shot.

    Emergency services are on their way to the park to assist staff with drones to capture the last monkey.

    Hey! According to the Swedish Transport Administration, the system change has worked well and it should not affect train traffic.

    On the other hand, trains can be canceled for other reasons, but it does not seem at the moment that the IT change affects that.

    Hi Anna! The women are still in custody for the same suspicions – kidnapping, murder and breach of the peace of mind.

    On Thursday, the prosecutor will request whether the detention period should be extended or not. At the moment, it does not seem that a possible prosecution will be brought until the beginning of next year.
