The summary of Avatar 1 before the sequel

In Avatar, viewers follow the journey of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paraplegic Marine deployed to the exomoon of Pandora, a planet with hostile wildlife whose resources are of great interest to an Earth corporation called RDA. But the Na’vis, the giant and blue aborigines of the planet, do not hear it that way. To avoid moving them the hard way, a peaceful solution is offered with the Avatar Program led by Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver). This consists of creating bodies similar to those of the Na’vis controlled by humans in order to promote diplomacy between the two species. Possessing the same genetic heritage as his deceased brother who was to participate in the Avatar program, Jake Sully integrates the mission and therefore becomes Na’vi with the objective of making them leave their ancestral territory so that the corporation recovers the resources therein. If he fails, Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang) will be happy to use drastic measures to destroy the Na’vis clan that is in his way.

At first suspicious, Jake Sully gradually discovers the planet of Pandora and all that it conceals of dangers but also of wonders. He is welcomed, again with suspicion, by the tribe of Na’vis called the Omatikayas who charge the warrior Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) to watch him but also to teach him their habits and customs. In doing so, Jake Sully and Neytiri grow closer, regardless of whether the Na’vi is promised to another. The more time passes, the more Sully shows himself partial to the Na’vis cause and tries to make Colonel Quaritch understand that the clan will never leave his sanctuary. It was enough for the soldier to launch a punch operation with one goal: to repel the Na’vis and drive them out by force. The Tree-House in which the clan lived is destroyed, pushing the tribe to wander. Injured, Grace Augustine is in critical condition. The Na’vis try to save her by transferring her consciousness into her avatar, but the maneuver fails.

It is revealed that Jake Sully served as a spy on behalf of Quaritch within the tribe of Na’vis who therefore decide to push him back. Sully, however, managed to regain their trust by becoming the rider of the toruk, a legendary winged beast believed by the Na’vi people to only bond with a great warrior. In doing so, Jake Sully becomes the legendary warrior named Toruk Makto and succeeds in uniting the various Na’vis clans who stand against the soldiers and machines of the RDA whose objective is now to destroy the tree of souls, the sanctuary the holiest of the people. A battle takes place and, for a time, the Na’vi resistance succeeds in jostling the armed forces of the corporation but they finally regain control…until the fauna of Pandora – perhaps led by the goddess of Nature named Eywa – overthrows the earthly army. During a final battle against Neytiri and Jake Sully, Colonel Quaritch is killed. During a ceremony at the end of the film, Jake Sully immerses his consciousness in the body of his avatar and abandons his human body envelope. He therefore becomes a full-fledged Na’vi.

Avatar 2, a sequel 13 years later

Pandora will soon unveil a new facet. Thirteen years after the first film, Avatar returns to cinemas this Wednesday, December 14 for a sequel. In 2020, James Cameron explained that the scripts for the four Avatar sequels had already been written, but also that the scenes in performance capture of Avatar 2, 3 and the first part of 4 were also shot. The director had seen fit to justify himself on the time it took him to release the sequel to Avatar. “People don’t understand how complex and huge this process is. It’s like making two and a half huge animated films. Usually, a big animated film takes about four years to make.”

Avatar 2 was released 13 years after James Cameron’s first Avatar movie. The director has worked hard to ensure that the sequel to the adventures at Pandora is as immersive as possible. First, the visionary filmmaker wrote the scripts for the Avatar sequels and pitched them to his cast including Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña. But he also worked to create the technologies that could accompany the production of Avatar sequels. Finally, the shooting in real shots but also and especially in performance capture concerned the entirety of Avatar 2 but also of Avatar 3 in full and part of Avatar 4.

We also know that James Cameron has ideas to continue the work with Avatar 5 and even Avatar 6 and Avatar 7 but these are much less advanced, logically. To speak only of the most likely sequel, the third Avatar film has therefore already been shot and must now be edited and especially worked on in post-production. However, James Cameron did not hide that Disney and 20th Century Studios are waiting for the success of Avatar: The Way of the Water and will only validate the sequel with Avatar 3 if it is successful at the box. -office.
