Sent school millions to Somalia – sentenced by the Court of Appeal

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Instead of going to the Swedish school activities, roughly twelve million kroner of the school money disappeared to, among other things, Somalia. Now the Court of Appeal confirms the verdict against Römossesskolan’s former principal Abdirizak Waberi, who was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for gross embezzlement and serious accounting offences.

Waberi, a former moderate member of parliament, has always denied any wrongdoing and appealed the district court’s verdict in its entirety. The Court of Appeal for Western Sweden, however, follows the district court’s line.

In parallel with the suspected eco-crimes, a legal process has been ongoing regarding the Römosseskolan itself, which is run by the association Framstegsskolan and has three schools in north-east Gothenburg.

Last Friday, the Supreme Administrative Court decided not to take up the case. This means that the schools – as the Court of Appeal decided last autumn – must be closed after the autumn semester.
