Second man charged with first degree murder in Brantford

Brantford police said Monday that a second man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 68-year-old man who was assaulted at a Market Street home on Dec. 4.

Calvin Clarke, 28, of Brantford, was arrested Dec. 10 in the downtown area.

Police said he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

On Dec. 5, police charged Kevin Jellis, 35, of Brantford with attempted murder. That charge was upgraded to first-degree murder after the assault victim died in hospital from his injuries.

Jellis is also charged in relation to a separate assault of a 25-year-old man at a Morton Street home. Police were called to Morton Street at about 9:30 am on Dec. 4 where they found a victim who was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said further details relating to their investigation remain subject to a publication ban.

Police have not named the victim.
