The new national team statement for Stina Nilsson after the tough start – now explains why: “We have chosen to…”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Stina Nilsson has had a tough start to the biathlon season, and has finished outside the top 30 in all races so far.
But when the riders make it to France and Annecy–Le Grand Bornand, she will be on the starting line after all.
Now national team coach Johannes Lukas explains the reason behind the decision.

Stina Nilsson changed cross-country skiing to biathlon after the 2019/2020 season, and since then has a third place from the World Cup in Kontiolahti 2022 as his best merit. She also finished in tenth place in Hochfilzen exactly one year ago.

Get another chance

But the beginning of the 2022/2023 season has not produced the results that Stina Nilsson wanted. The 29-year-old has so far made five starts during the season, but in all of these she has finished outside the top 30.

Despite that, she is in the national team squad when the biathlon season rolls on in France and Annecy–Le Grand Bornand at the end of the week. Which means that a rider who Mona Brorsson must settle for competing in the IBU Cup.

“Have chosen to…”

The competitions in Annecy–Le Grand Bornand are the last for the year, and the national team coach John Luke does not want to shake the squad that he has so far given confidence in.
– We want to ensure the best possible development for each active and have therefore chosen to drive with the same team as in Hochfilzen based on what the active have shown in the last competitions, he says in a statement.

Lukas believes that the form for the final competitions in 2022 is good and that the Swedish camp hopes to celebrate the new year with good results.
– In connection with the last World Cup, the goal was to fight for podium places and got good results, but are hungry for more. The form of the riders is good and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve.
