Statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry We tried to give

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin made important statements to journalists regarding the Turkish-Russian political consultations held in Istanbul on 8-9 December.

‘IT WAS IMPORTANT TO TELL TURKEY’

Vershinin said, “We discussed the developments in Ukraine, Donbass and the new regions of Russia in full detail. By drawing attention to the aggressive attitude of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and its attacks on civilians in the Donbass and other regions of Russia, we tried to give Turkey detailed information about the real situation on the ground. In this respect, it was very important to explain to Turkey the situation that the Western media continues to distort. There was a lot of false news,” he said.

‘YOU SHOULD REMEMBER HOW EVERYTHING ENDED’

Reminding that the last round of negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations was held in Istanbul, Verşinin said, “You must remember how everything ended. It all ended with Ukraine’s aggressive and unconstructive behavior. On the contrary, we made statements expressing that we are ready to discuss the objectives announced during the special military operation.”

‘IT INTERESTS BOTH US AND TURKEY’

Verşinin stated that useful consultations were held in Istanbul within the framework of the developing bilateral relations between Russia and Turkey, adding, “The consultations were on various issues such as the UN Security Council reform and our perspective on the role of the United Nations in the new world, as well as the interaction between our delegations in New York and other international platforms. These specifically cover situations in Afghanistan, Libya, Palestine and the Middle East. All these issues are discussed in New York from time to time, and they certainly concern both us and Turkey.”
