Twitter Blue relaunched, increasing maximum tweet length to 4,000 characters

Earlier in the project, Twitter was defined by a 140 character limit (an artifact of supporting SMS as a way to distribute tweets). This was increased to 280 characters five years ago, and the cap will go even higher – possibly at a price.

This is part of the relaunch of Twitter Blue, which is set to include checkmarks in several colors. The familiar blue checkmark will appear for accounts that are going through a review process. Then there will be gold tick marks for businesses and gray tick marks for government officials and organizations.

The blue checkmark (which is important to individuals) will give users early access to new features, for example longer videos with resolutions up to 1080p. The timeline of the launch of the new features is not clear, we only know that the tweet editing option is available from day 1.

The latest development is that in the near future Twitter will increase the maximum length of a tweet to 4,000 characters. Given how common Twitter threads are, this could be a good change. However, Elon Musk’s response when asked about this change does not reveal whether it will be exclusive to Twitter Blue subscribers.

It would definitely be a way to entice people to buy a subscription to Blue for $8 per month. And that’s it, if you hit the website, Twitter for iOS will charge you $11 per month rather than make up for the Apple App Store fee (30%). By the way, Twitter Blue is not an ad-free subscription, instead Blue users will only see half of the ads.

One thing that can be controversial is that accounts with Twitter Blue will be given priority when listing mentions and search results. In other words, if you want your content to be seen by more people, you have to pay.
