We met Frédéric Michalak on the occasion of the Sport Unlimitech event at the Toulouse stadium, this Friday, December 9, 2022. In partnership with Doctissimo, this new stage in Toulouse aims to make discover the progress made in sports medicine. The former rugby player from the XV of France who became president of SportUnlimiTECH, explains the origins of this event which combines sport, health and innovation.
Doctissimo: A real public health issue, sport is in the spotlight at Sport Unlimitech. Could you tell us about the event in a few words?
Frederic Michalak : Sport Unlimited has existed since 2019, with a first event in Lyon. We started with a Sport Unlimitech festival for both professionals and the general public. And after this experience, we said to ourselves that we were going to do more than one event a year, by offering different formats throughout France to further engage the sports sector.
What is the attendance rate for your events?
We receive between 1,500 and 2,000 visitors at each event, professionals and the general public included.
Could you tell us more about your value proposition?
The idea is to bring together worlds that know each other but never meet, especially the world of research and sport. We try to bring out innovations in sports medicine.
So your events are more for professionals and athletes?
Not only, we have the ambition to reach the general public. I recently read that nearly 73% of teenagers aged 11 to 17 do less than 60 minutes of physical activity per day, according to ONAPS. It is really worrying and we are trying to act at our level.
What is your strategy precisely to reach these young people?
There are a lot of products and services available on social networks or through sports associations, but we don’t know what to choose. What is the best solution for my need? Our role is therefore also to help guide and inform the public with specific conferences such as “sport and cancer”, “the fight against physical inactivity”, “the benefits of e-sport”, or well again “the protection of health data”, etc.
Finally, will Sport Unlimitech be at the Olympics?
Sure. These are driving events during which we need to talk about the sport of tomorrow and share innovations, bringing together the best of sport and technology.
