To get electricity to his apartment, a 30-year-old man in Katrineholm pulled a cable from the attic of the apartment building. Now he is being sentenced for illegal energy diversion, reports SVT Sörmland.

The man had had his electricity cut off because he had not paid either the rent or the electricity bill on time. The electricity was therefore turned off at the end of last year.

He said in court that he pulled the cable from the attic under the apartment door to be able to charge his phone, that “necessity has no law”, according to SVT. It happened on several occasions, according to a property manager.

The verdict in the Nyköping district court means that the man must pay 50 daily fines of SEK 60 each, as well as for having driven a moped without a valid driver’s license.
