Price protests have been staged across the country.
The folk movement Skiftet has gathered people who are saddened by rising prices.
– Ordinary people should be able to live, says one of the organizers.
About a hundred people gathered around Stockholm in a price protest. From Medborgarplatsen, they then set off on a torch train. But it is not only in the capital was arranged.
The shift movement organized twenty price protests around Sweden on Saturday. From Boden in the north to Malmö in the south.
– We protest against the Ebba prices for electricity. We protest against Icaflation, that food is becoming more and more expensive. And we demand frozen rents, says Christian Tengblad who is a campaigner for the Shiftet movement.
He finds the frustration in his own everyday life. And there are several people in Sweden who live in a similar situation.
– I and a lot of people live in a rental property and see that they want to raise the rents by ten percent. Every time I shop, the food gets more expensive, a damn loaf of bread costs 40 bucks and it’s mostly air. And the electricity is only getting more and more expensive. So it is so that ordinary people can live.
“People are very angry”
The torchlight procession in Stockholm began with speeches and chants, with hundreds of people in attendance. In total in Sweden there will be around a thousand participants. In the train, people marched with placards while the torches lit up the Christmas shopping in the winter darkness.
– From what I have seen, there are 1,500 people who have reported that they will make an effort. Then there are about a hundred who come to various demonstrations, but there are also many who sit at home and light candles. Because not everyone can go to a demonstration, says Christian Tengblad.
People have gone out in the December cold because they are sad and they demand a stop to the price increases.
– People who come by are very angry. They are very angry that Ebba Busch went around Sweden with a sausage and said “look here, I will solve this”. They promised that they would have an electricity price subsidy paid out on the first of November. I have not received any electricity price subsidy yet.
Prices have been rising since long before there was a change of government in Sweden. It is also not the first time that the Skiftetrölersen organizes protests.
– We already protested under the previous government. I don’t care what their name is, those who sit at Rosenbad. I care what they do, and this government does nothing or they do bad things. It doesn’t matter if it’s Magdalena Andersson or Ulf Kristersson.
