Vampire Survivors is the sleeper hit of 2022 (although it was released in 2021), making it onto numerous “Best Game” lists. This is a weird game that seems more suited to the 2000s Flash game website rather than Steam, but it’s addictive, exciting and challenging, and with a surprise announcement, it’s now available for free on the Play Store.
The roguelite RPG known as Vampire Survivors is now available as a free, ad-supported version on iOS and Android. If you don’t know much about the game, Vampire Survivors is a top-down auto shooter that offers a simple goal: the goal is to survive. As you move your character around the screen, it will automatically attack hordes of creatures attacking from all sides. You can’t win, but you can collect enough gold to unlock one or two new upgrades, and there are also new survivors you can unlock, adding more depth and strategy as you progress.
This is where addiction lies. It’s an incredibly satisfying game to play, and the rush you get when you open another treasure chest activates the same dopamine rush as opening loot boxes (but for free!).
Vampire Survivors is free to play and contains ads, but the ads are not intrusive. You can watch a video to respawn when you die, and also watch another video ad to earn bonus gold. These videos are completely optional and not required to unlock new items. The mobile hotspot is in portrait mode by default; this may not be welcome for those used in landscape mode of desktop and console versions. But you can go to the second page of the options menu to switch to landscape mode. Unfortunately, any non 16:9 screen (i.e. most phones) will have black bars (pole box) on either side of the game during gameplay.
Vampire Survivors supports you to use Bluetooth controllers as your finger can easily get in front of approaching enemies. While the game is running at a steady 60fps, older phones can struggle as enemies pile up on the screen during longer runs. How Long To Beat estimates it will take 33.5 hours to unlock everything, but you’ll likely be playing for much longer than that./see
Vampire Survivors, to our list of the best Android games It will quickly enter and even become one of the top contenders for the game of the year. It’s fun, addictive and doesn’t suffer from the same win-win payment mechanism that plagues many free games on the Google Play Store.
