So far this year, 60 people have been shot to death in Sweden, a new grim record.
On January 25, 18-year-old Emirhan left home to train. Later in the evening, his mother Tülün hears a car revving outside the house in Botkyrka. She goes outside to find her son shot in the family car.
– Around twenty past eight I spoke to him: ‘Mum, I’m on my way to training’. That was the last time I heard his voice, she says.
Emirhan was taken to hospital by ambulance but his life could not be saved. He was murdered just a few months before he was to graduate.
The investigation is pending
Despite the fact that the murder of Emirhan has been examined by experienced homicide investigators from Gothenburg, the police have not succeeded in solving the case. The investigation is on hold until new clues emerge.
– It was the end of the project for them. They’re ready, but me? I am not finished. Emirhan, why aren’t you here? They could have killed me if they wanted to hurt us, says Tülün.
Emirhan was not convicted of any crime and it is still unclear why he was shot to death. He dreamed of becoming an aircraft engineer.
