The Columbus Blue Jackets experienced a complete upset in the hockey NHL battle played against the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabers rallied by Tage Thompson leading to a 9–4 away win. Thompson scored a whopping five goals and also had an assist.

Buffalo started the match strongly and immediately forged the dull 6-0 numbers on the board in the opening set. Started in goal for the Blue Jackets Joonas Korpisalo had to be replaced already in 7:28, when the Sabers jumped out to a 3–0 lead. Latvian keeper replaced Elvis Merzlikins faced the same intense heat as Korpisalo and had to surrender six times. Korpisalo returned to the goal in the third set.
