According to US intelligence, Muhammad bin Salman had approved the murder of Khashoggi.
A US judge has accepted the US government’s recommendation to guarantee immunity from prosecution for the crown prince of Saudi Arabia and the prime minister appointed in September To Muhammad bin Salman in the story where this is suspected to be the journalist Jamal Khashoggi for organizing the murder. Khashoggi was murdered in Turkey in 2018.
US courts grant immunity, i.e. protection from prosecution, to foreign heads of state and other high-ranking officials. President Joe Biden the administration recommended immunity for the prince in November because he is classified as a head of a foreign government.
According to the judge who made the decision, Khashoggi’s widow Hatice Cengiz and the activist group presented strong and meritorious arguments to show that the prince was behind the murder. However, he said that, as a judge, he does not have the power to reject the official position of the country’s administration, because then he would interfere with the government’s responsibility for foreign policy.
The judge said he was uncomfortable with the credibility of the allegations and the timing of the prince’s appointment as prime minister and the US administration’s proposal. However, according to himself, he had no alternatives.
According to US intelligence, bin Salman had approved the murder of Khashoggi. Saudi authorities have denied that the crown prince was responsible for the murder.
