It was dramatic, to say the least, in last night’s meeting between the Vancouver Canucks and the Montreal Canadiens.
In the center was Swedish Elias Pettersson.
The center decided the crazy meeting with a dream goal – and at the same time took revenge on the opposing defender Mike Matheson.
Elias Pettersson and his Vancouver Canucks did not have a successful first period in tonight’s meeting with the Montreal Canadiens at home in Rogers Arena. The guests led 4-0 after just over a quarter of an hour and the match looked lost right then and there.
Crazy finish party
But the home team would be responsible for a monster effort – and Swedish center Elias Pettersson was highly involved in the Canucks’ improbable turnaround. First, he assisted his team’s 2–4 reduction, before once again staying in front and playing until the equaliser.

The match ended 6–6 after regular time and extra time was expected. Then Pettersson stepped forward again. Just 13 seconds into overtime, Petersson put pressure on the Montreal defense Mike Matheson.

The Swede got hold of the puck, took it towards the goal, folded in and put the decisive goal between the legs of the goalkeeper. A dream goal from Pettersson who at the same time took revenge on Mike Matheson. This after Matheson had previously tackled Pettersson heavily. But this time it was the Swede who emerged victorious from the duel.

“I asked Elias Pettersson if he knew it was Mike Matheson he humiliated in extra time. He said “I have no comment”. Of course he knew,” writes the journalist Iain MacIntyre on Twitter.

Pettersson is now being praised for his contribution.
“I wanted everyone to know that Petersson is Sweden’s best hockey player,” writes a user on social media.
“Petersson finally got revenge on Mike Matheson,” writes another.
