The United States announced that it had killed the terrorist organization DEASH leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi in an operation in the town of Atme in Idlib, northwest of Syria, at night. After this statement, Maria Zakharova, Spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also made a statement about the operation. Expressing their support for the operation, Zaharova said, “We support the efforts of other states, including the members of the US-led international coalition, in the fight against terrorism. We are ready to cooperate with all relevant countries to create an effective joint response to this common threat.”
CLAIMS OF LOSS OF CIVIL LIFE
Expressing that they also take into account the allegations that there were civilian casualties during the US operation, Zaharova said, “If the information about the civilian casualties during the US action is confirmed, it should become the subject of a comprehensive investigation. The fact that the DEASH leader is hiding in the town of Atme in the de-escalation zone is a matter of concern to the Syrian authorities. It showed once again that this region, which is beyond its control, is being used by terrorist organizations.”
‘TURKEY’ DETAIL IN THE STATEMENT
Pointing to the joint steps taken by Turkey and Russia in northern Syria, Zaharova said, “This confirms the need to quickly eliminate the outposts of gangs and militants in Idlib, as stipulated by the relevant agreements with Turkey.” (UAV)
