Bierhoff resigns after Germany’s World Cup fiasco

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Bierhoff, who decided the European Championship final in 1996, has worked for the German Confederation since 2004.

“I have told the chairman of my decision today. I am paving the way for others to choose a new direction,” he said in a statement.

Germany also made a fiasco at the World Cup 2018 in Russia when they finished last in the group, behind, among others, Sweden.

“I do not leave without necessary self-criticism. We have not been able to repeat our previous successes in the last four years. Some decisions we believed in a lot have been proven wrong. No one regrets it more than I do. I take responsibility for that,” says Bierhoff.

Attacking star Oliver Bierhoff scored 37 goals in 70 internationals for Germany during his playing career.
