Schiphol Group has bought out farmers for more nitrogen space

The decision to turn Lelystad into an overflow airport for Schiphol dates back to 2008. The opening of Lelystad had already been postponed due to the corona crisis and was further delayed, partly due to the slow progress of the formation. Political support for the expansion of capacity for Dutch aviation has also declined considerably recently. The intention is, when Lelystad opens, that a maximum of 45,000 flight movements will take place annually. But according to an earlier draft permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Fisheries, this would be a maximum of 10,000 flights based on the law on nature protection.
