Toyota Corolla Cross, one of the new additions to its product range, will be one of the test beds of the current hydrogen fuel system.
Kenshiki Forum, which is held both physically and online in Brussels, hosts important announcements and demonstrations of Toyota. Being one of the important participants of the organization that opened its doors for the fourth time this year, the Japanese manufacturer made vital announcements focusing on hydrogen fuel technology alongside its electric and hybrid vehicles. Corolla Cross also finds a place for itself among the R&D studies that started with Hilux on the hydrogen side.

Important information on the technical side of the project, which was launched under the name Corolla Cross H2, was also shared. The project, which we see equipped with the 1.6-liter 3-cylinder turbo engine used in the GR Corolla, will also be on the road with the hydrogen tank made with the knowledge gained from Mirai. Benefiting from existing internal combustion engine technology, the vehicle also offers advantages such as fast refueling time, five-person passenger capacity, high range and a reduction in the use of limited elements such as lithium ion/nickel.

These steps taken today are vitally important in order to transfer this technology, which is currently being tried in motor sports, to road cars as well. The Toyota front has reduced the fuel refueling time of the hydrogen vehicle from five minutes to just 1 minute and 30 seconds with its work in motor sports, while increasing the range by around 30 percent. Winter tests of the Corolla Cross H2 prototype, which is under development, will soon begin in Japan.
