The Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries was the man of this round of 16 against the United States. The Inter Milan defender first offered two assists for Memphis (10th) and Daley Blind (45th + 1) in the first period before scoring the third goal himself in the second half (81st). He also saved a Wright strike down the line as the score was still 2-0 in favor of the Netherlands. He is the first Dutch player to be involved in three goals since Rob Rensenbrink (twice in 1978) and Johan Cruijff (in 1974).

Matt Turner achieves a feat in his goal! Frenkie de Jong first unleashes a powerful shot from 20 meters that the American goalkeeper deflects. Memphis is there to take the lead but Turner diverts with a firm hand… Superb.

Author of two great assists this evening, Dumfries obtained a corner in this second period on his right side. Gakpo hits it well and Van Dijk takes over but the ball goes over the American goal.

After a long stoppage of play, American coach Gregg Berhalter made two new changes with 25 minutes left in regulation time. Haji Wright and Brenden Aaronson replace Timothy Weah and Winston McKennie respectively.
