In Senegal, a new university was inaugurated on Thursday, December 1, in the new town of Diamniadio, about thirty kilometers from Dakar. It is baptized Amadou-Mahtar-Mbow in homage to the former minister and former director of Unesco. The establishment is now the second public university in Dakar, after Cheikh-Anta-Diop University.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the brand new 1,500-seat amphitheater. Amadou-Mahtar-Mbow University includes several poles: science and technology, economics and management, social sciences.
President Macky Sall appealed to students: “ Our country is now taking another qualitative step in its resolute march towards emerging Senegal. So you have, dear students, quality supervision, be quality learners. »
After the laying of the first stone in 2015, the construction site had taken a lot of delay. The lessons had started in temporary premises. This is therefore the first phase, with infrastructure ” worthy of the best universities in the world according to the rector.
Two other university projects launched
Professor Ibrahima Cissé paid tribute to the godfather, Amadou Mahtar Mbow, who celebrated his 100th birthday in 2021. Our godfather, whose laudatory career inevitably calls on our students to inspire and appropriate the cardinal values, to whom we wish a very long life. A university is the future of Senegal, it is what carries within us our identity and our culture. »
Two other projects have also been launched, without a precise timetable for the time being: the Souleymane-Niang University in Matam, in the north of the country, and the University of Eastern Senegal.
