His appearance in the latest Mario trailer is being torn

The Super Mario Bros. movie is well on its way to becoming one of the cutest animated movies. Both the teaser trailer and the recently released trailer are inspiring loving details and references to the video game template. But there is still one big point of criticism: Mario’s voice.

In the original, the adventurous plumber is voiced by Chris Pratt, who became a blockbuster star through film series such as Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy. With his Mario interpretation, however hardly anyone satisfied. Chris Pratt’s Mario just sounds like Chris Pratt in any other movie.

The reactions are very harsh. Pratt puts in about as much effort in the recording studio as the perennially demotivated Krusty the Clown on The Simpsons.

Pratt’s Mario voice pulls the whole movie down. Ultimately, everyone else involved has to make up for the miscasting of the main character.
