Martin Blachier wants to put an end to wearing a mask at school outdoors

It was on his Twitter account that Martin Blachier gave his opinion on children wearing masks outside. Both short and concise, his message is no less direct and addressed very clearly to the government: “Remove the mask in playgrounds at the same time as removing the mask outside for adults. To be put on the agenda of Wednesday’s defense council!!!“.

When will health measures change?

However, nothing says that the government will respond to his call. Indeed, the Minister of National Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, still asks for a little “be patient with parents” assuring that the removal of the mask for children was surely going to happen “before the end of the school year“.

For adults, on the other hand, the measure was decided and announced a few weeks ago: wearing a mask will no longer be compulsory outdoors from February 2.

Consequences on learning?

If the mask worn at school worries parents, it is mainly for the consequences it can have on children’s learning. According to the National Collective of Speech Therapists of France, the mask “aggravates language disorders”. One of its members, Nathalie Gual Hancali, speech therapist in the Gers, denounces on Europe 1: “The mask will amplify the difficulties, for those who already had them. It prevents them from acquiring a normal phonology, and therefore from having a normal reading “, she assures.

An opinion confirmed by a CNRS study published in May 2021, which shows that children aged 5 to 7 who already have language disorders, encounter difficulties in learning to read without visualizing the pronunciation of words.
