In the match between the Los Angeles Kings and the Seattle Crake last night, we saw real goal kicks. No less than 17 hits were made in the match.

Seattle, playing in its second season in the NHL, finally won in overtime with goals 9–8. The decisive hit was scored by the Swedish striker Andrey Burakovskywho had a two-goal night.

Burakovsky won the Stanley Cup for the Colorado Avalanche last season Mikko Rantanen and Artturi Lehkonen with.

– It was a confusing evening. I think we played a really bad game, as did they. We were lucky that they didn’t play well at all, Burakovsky told the NHL website.

It is only the third time in the 2000s that 17 goals have been scored in one NHL game. It is interesting that two of them are from this year. In February, the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings 10-7.

Before that game, the previous record for as many goals was in a game between the Winnipeg Jets and the Philadelphia Flyers in October 2011. The last time more goals were scored was in January 1996, when the San Jose Sharks beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 10–8.

The record for goals in one game in the NHL is 21. Toronto St. Patricks and Montreal Canadiens in 1920 and Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks in November 1985 have been able to do that.

“A confusing evening”

In the first two periods alone, 14 goals were scored. The teams’ best scorers were Los Angeles, who recorded four assists Kevin Fiala and Seattle Jordan Eberle.

– This was one of those matches where the last shot is decisive. It’s better to be on the winning side, but it was a crazy hockey game, the Seattle head coach Dave Hakstol comment.

Nine own goals naturally pissed off the legendary coach of Los Angeles Todd McLellan.

– It was a really confusing evening for all of us. I’m really disappointed that we conceded nine goals. But on the other hand, I’m happy that we fought back, got one point and scored eight goals. This was a big embarrassment for all of us and we need to get over this quickly.

Seattle is second and Los Angeles third in the Pacific Division.
