The government chose on 22 November in the EU’s Council of Ministers to refrain, together with Hungary, from participating in the decision on the EU’s budget for 2023.
“The decision to abstain has not been the subject of consultation in Sweden’s Riksdag, neither in the Finance Committee nor in the Riksdag’s EU Committee,” writes Matilda Ernkrans (S) in her KU report.
She also points out that within a few weeks Sweden will take over as the EU’s presidency, and writes that “it is remarkable that Sweden, together with Hungary, were the only countries not able to stand behind the EU’s annual budget for 2023.”
