    Actor Roschdy Zem chose cinema to confide in about a family drama: the head trauma that affected his younger brother, Mustapha. Through this story, the actor and director recounts the consequences of this accident for his brother, but also for his whole family. A film released in theaters on November 23.

    It is in a feature film that Roschdy Zem has chosen to tell his story. Or rather the story of his younger brother, Mustapha. A man described as gentle, outgoing and devoted to his family. A man whom an accident will brutally change.

    A change in behavior resulting from head trauma

    Following a fall, Mustapha suffered a head trauma. He then changes character and becomes unrecognizable. He speaks without filter. “After a shock to the head, this kind man became someone with an uninhibited and fierce outspoken“says Roschdy Zem. “This event created a cataclysm within my family, which is a family that is both very close-knit and also plagued by conflicts, like all families. Everything that constitutes this accident has upset us“.

    What are the consequences of a head injury?

    A traumatic brain injury occurs when the skull is violently hit, whether on the ground, during an accident or a blow to the head. When questioned, Dr. Wilfrid Casseron, neurologist in Aix-en-Provence, confirms the disastrous consequences that this type of accident can have on a person. “Indeed, after a head trauma, which will affect the frontal lobe area, we can see in the patient a change in his behavior. Because it is in this part of the brain that social inhibitions are housed, that is to say social filters, what we learn not to say directly, so as not to hurt “ details the specialist. A consequence that can also be found in certain types of frontotemporal dementia, with the same disorders: disinhibition, impulsivity, irritability…

    Can we recover from this type of trauma?

    Invited on the C à Vous set on November 21, Mustapha Zem explained that he recovered in just nine months, compared to two and a half years usually for this type of injury. “Even if this word does not belong to the medical jargon, the doctors spoke about miracle“, he explained during the broadcast.

    The recovery of the patient is indeed long but possible in some casesconfirms Dr. Casseron.It all depends on the location of the lesion, its importance… Several factors come into play“. It should be remembered that head trauma can be serious and leave disabling sequelae. It is also the leading cause of death among 15-25 year olds and the leading cause of severe disability among those under 45.
