PowerPoint adapts to smartphones and tablets with a feature to easily switch slideshows from landscape to portrait mode. Proof of Microsoft’s interest in mobile office automation.
The smartphone has become a real extension of the computer and, therefore, a work tool in its own right. This is why many platforms adapt to its vertical user interface. It’s no wonder, then, that Microsoft is also getting into it with a new PowerPoint mobile app that supports portrait mode for its slideshows. The firm explains on his blog that “with the move towards creating content on mobile, many of you have told us that you’d rather do it in portrait mode. Based on your feedback, we’ve added the ability to toggle portrait mode on and off when creating and editing slides.” Quite practical for resuming your presentation on a mobile after having started it on a computer, or for exporting a presentation to a video that is easier to read on mobile devices, for example! At this time, this feature is only available on Insider Program versions 2.68 (Build 22112003) and later. – which allows registered users to test new features in advance in order to help developers – on iPhone and iPad. It should be accessible to the general public after this test phase, even if it is not yet known when the Android version will be affected.
PowerPoint on mobile: how to switch to portrait mode?
On the app, you can access portrait mode through the Orientation menu in the Design tab. A simple press allows you to switch from one view to another, without affecting the formatting. The display of the menus is however a little different between the smartphone and tablet versions. Here’s how to do it on iPad:
► Launch the application and select a presentation (a new one or an existing one).
► In the tab Design (Design) located in the sidebar at the very top, tap Orientation.
► In the drop-down menu, tap Portrait to toggle the slideshow.
The process is almost the same on iPhone:
► Launch the application and select a presentation (a new one or an existing one).
► In the tab Welcome (Home), press Design (Design).
► A new menu appears. Press on Orientation.
► Press Portrait to toggle the slideshow.
