1. Wales – England, 2
England are already effectively through to the round of 16, but this is still a derby – and a World Cup match – where every player will give their all to win. In addition, England must win to be sure of taking first place, and thus Gareth Southgate will definitely field the best possible team. With these conditions, and with an England determined to do a better game than against the USA last time, we think England will win here. We nail the 2nd.
2. Iran – USA, 1X
Interesting match with a lot of tension, both politically and table-wise in the group stage. Iran must win to be guaranteed promotion – but can progress even with a cross – while the USA must win and in that case are guaranteed promotion.
Iran played a strong game when they beat Wales last time, and maybe they were taken by the moment and the circumstances in the first game against England. 3. Australia – Denmark, 2
Denmark have only picked up one point in their first two games, but given the way they looked, they might have deserved more than that. Australia have taken three points, thanks to the victory against Tunisia. When they faced France in the opener, however, they didn’t have much to offer, apart from impressive play in the first twenty minutes.

4. Tunisia – France, 12
Tunisia must win in order to advance, while France are already play-off-ready and, in practice, have already secured the group victory. We are not counting Tunisia out of this match, but are aware that it is all or nothing for them. Of these, we play 12.

5. Saudi Arabia – Mexico, 12
Saudi Arabia is the WC’s positive surprise so far. The team had an earth-shaking roar when they defeated Argentina in the opener, and then Saudi followed up that victory with a good performance against Poland as well. However, a penalty miss and some sloppiness resulted in that match being lost.
Mexico have hardly convinced so far, and are still waiting for their first goal in the World Cup. Here you have to win, and all the artillery will be sent forward if you don’t lead the game towards the end. Then victory or loss feels most likely, and we play 12 here as well.
6. Poland – Argentina, 2
Argentina hasn’t directly convinced so far into the World Cup, but neither has Poland. In terms of player quality, tradition and most of all, it is Argentina’s advantage here. The victory against Mexico gave the team wind in its sails, and here we believe that the team wins when it really has to. We single the 2nd.
7. Croatia – Belgium, 1
Croatia was very convincing when they defeated Canada in the last match. 4-1 was written as the winning numbers at that time. Belgium have found it very difficult to impress, winning undeservedly against Canada before losing deservedly against Morocco.
Belgium need to win this game to progress and will go all out if necessary. Here, a “fork” plays, 12.
8. Canada – Morocco, X2
Canada has shown positive tendencies during the World Cup so far, but the last bit is missing. The edge was missing against Belgium, and the defense and composure over the game failed against Croatia.
Morocco have looked surprisingly strong so far, and the fact is they have a very strong squad. Here we must remember that a draw is enough for Morocco to advance, against a Canada that is already eliminated. We choose to play X2.
9. Japan – Spain, 2
If Spain loses this match, they can actually go out of the WC, and if they draw, they risk losing first place. Everything to play for for the Spanish, in other words. Japan shocked by defeating Germany in the opener, but shocked almost as much by losing to Costa Rica in the second round. We don’t think they will manage to stage a new ruckus like the one against Germany, but feel comfortable leaving the 2 alone.
10. Costa Rica – Germany, 2
Victory is the only thing that counts for Germany in this match, and against Spain they showed that they still have great quality in them. When needed, Germany can step forward and achieve a good result. Against Costa Rica, we are convinced that Germany will arrange three points, and we nail the 2nd.
11. South Korea – Portugal, 2
South Korea will need to go for a win here to progress, while Portugal are already through but secure the group win if they get at least a point here. With a forced South Korea offensive, we have a hard time seeing a draw, and we also have a hard time seeing South Korea win. We nail Portugal.
12. Cameroon – Brazil, 2
Brazil, along with France and Portugal, are alone in having gone clean so far in the World Cup, with six points from two games. Here they face the worst team in the group in advance, Cameroon, and very little speaks for anything but that it will be another Brazilian victory. We don’t think otherwise, but nail the 2.
13. Serbia – Switzerland, 1X2
Serbia is perhaps the World Cup’s most unpredictable team, which we saw proof of in the team’s match against Cameroon. 0-1 turned into 3-1, which then became 3-3. Here you have player material that is better than Switzerland, but a mentality that is worse. This match can go either way, and we choose to defend.
