Charges of sexual offenses involving a youth have been withdrawn against a Brantford man in Ontario court.
Hanad Mahamed Said, 24, was charged in 2019 after the Brantford police child abuse and sexual assault unit said he had posed as a teenager online and gained the trust of a local youth who he allowed to stay at his apartment. He was charged with sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, sexual exploitation and sexual assault.
Later in 2019, Said was charged with mischief under $5,000 and mischief to property but those charges were withdrawn in October.
Earlier this month, all the sexual offense charges also were withdrawn.
Prohibited driver jailed and fined
A local man, who was suspended from driving when he was arrested for prohibited driving in 2021, was again behind the wheel in 2022, according to court documents.
Robert D. Hill, 61. pleaded guilty recently in Ontario Court to two occasions of prohibited operation, driving while under suspension, driving without insurance and breaching an undertaking.
Justice Gethin Edward sentenced him to 16 months of jail and ordered him to pay a fine of $1,125 for his first suspended driving offense and another fine of $6,250 for driving without insurance.
Other driving charges were withdrawn.
Jail for assaults using weapon
A Brantford man, still on probation from convictions in 2021 of breaking probation orders to stay away from a former partner, was sentenced again recently in Ontario Court.
John Norman Brunelle, 53, pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon and threatening death or bodily harm in connection with an incident last March 8.
Just two weeks later, Brunelle was again charged with the same offenses but those were later withdrawn.
Justice Colette Good sentenced him to the time he had already spent in jail since his arrest and another 110 days for the equivalent of a year-long sentence.
Jail and long probation for assault
A local man charged with various crimes in August was sentenced last month to the equivalent of a year in jail.
Adam J. Louiseize, 33, pleaded guilty to assault, mischief to property and breach of probation.
He got credit for serving 107 days and was ordered back to jail for another 258 days.
The judge also placed him on probation for three years – the longest probationary period that can be assigned.
Time served for ignoring short orders
A local man was sentenced to time already served for breaching release orders.
Jonathan A. Gerrard, 37, pleaded guilty in Ontario Court to failing to comply with the orders in March this year, and again in May.
He was sentenced by Justice Gethin Edward this fall to the equivalent of 150 days in time already served.
Other charges of criminal harassment were withdrawn by the Crown.
Thousands in fines for driving offenses
A man who pleaded guilty in court to driving offenses and a sexual assault got to serve his time on weekends and was hit several hefty fines.
Samuel L. Miller, 50, was arrested in July 2019 for careless driving, May 2020 for impaired driving and April 2021 for breaching release conditions.
He pleaded guilty to each of those offenses in April and was sentenced to 30 days of weekend jail and fines and surcharges that amounted to almost $4,000.
More recently he pleaded guilty to sexual assault and was placed on the sexual offenders registry for a limited time and ordered to spend 90 days in weekend jail.
