In the city of Utrecht, a total of six hundred people receive a weekly shopping card from Albert Heijn with 17.50 euros on it. “At first we handed out composite shopping packages”, Suzan Pijls, Red Cross project leader in Utrecht, looks back. “But because we wanted to give some freedom of choice when buying food and drink, we switched to the cards. These are distributed, through our neighborhood partners, to the people who need it most.”
