Turkey The NATO process will be discussed with the foreign

The foreign ministers of Turkey, Finland and Sweden will meet in connection with the NATO foreign ministers’ meeting in Bucharest, Romania. According to Turkey, it has more problems with Sweden than with Finland’s NATO membership.

According to Turkey, the NATO membership process of Finland and Sweden will be discussed between the countries’ foreign ministers tomorrow, Tuesday, in Bucharest.

The foreign ministers will hold a tripartite meeting on Tuesday, said the Turkish foreign minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu according to the Turkish news channel NTV (you will switch to another service).

– The process is progressing positively, but some steps still need to be taken. The problems related to Finland are not that big. We have more problems with Sweden. Sweden is a country that should take more steps, Çavuşoğlu said, according to NTV.

A meeting of foreign ministers of the military alliance NATO will be held in Bucharest, Romania, on Tuesday and Wednesday. Finland and Sweden will participate in the meeting of foreign ministers for the first time as observer members. The meeting will discuss, for example, Russia’s war in Ukraine, Russia’s neighboring regions and China.

Çavuşoğlu also seemed to hint that Turkey might be ready to ratify Finland’s membership, but not Sweden’s. He stated that although according to Turkey Sweden has more to do than Finland, Finland and Sweden and NATO want the countries to be treated equally.

– We have more problems with Sweden, but both countries and NATO have said that countries must be treated equally, he said according to NTV.

According to him, the countries have fulfilled only part of their “obligations” to Turkey.

– Finland and Sweden have fulfilled some of their obligations according to the memorandum, but not some of them, Çavuşoğlu said.

The ratifications of Finland’s and Sweden’s NATO memberships are still missing from Hungary and Turkey.
