A 14-year-old boy died on the night of Saturday to Sunday after being beaten with a hammer during a brawl in Coignièes (Yvelines). Another 16-year-old man, suspected of being the perpetrator, is in custody.
A brawl between rival gangs has claimed the life of a teenager. On the night of Saturday to Sunday November 27, 2022, two groups of teenagers clashed in a brawl near the Moulin à Vents gymnasium in Coignières, in the Yvelines. One of the young men, 14-year-old Djibril, was hit in the head with a hammer, according to information revealed by the Versailles prosecutor’s office, and succumbed to his injuries. The teenager was from the town of Maurepas and was expected by a rival gang at the exit of the sports complex where an MMA gala was being held. The deadly brawl also left another injured who was taken to hospital, he too is from Maurepas.
The author of the fatal attack first fled before going himself to the Argenteuil police station on November 27, according to information from BFM Ile-de-France. The 16-year-old said he was the author of the blows and used a hammer. Since then, the suspect, domiciled in Coignières and without a criminal record, has been placed in police custody and must be heard by the police. The investigation opened by the Versailles prosecutor’s office for “manslaughter” is ongoing and should determine whether the young man acted alone and what his motivations were.
