If you are one of those who are afraid of turbulence, a solution may be to take the earlier flight instead of flying later in the day. This is what the pilot says Morgan Smith to the New York Times.
Rising heat
In an interview with the newspaper, the pilot says that the morning flights have less risk of turbulence due to the effects of rising heat.
“As the day heats up in the afternoon, the heat rising from the land increases the risk of near-ground turbulence and turbulence caused by storms,” says Morgan Smith.
Sit tight when things get shaky
The pilot also had a couple of other suggestions for those worried about shaky air travel.
– The only thing you should be worried about when there is turbulence on the flight is possibly spilling your drink, she tells the newspaper.
Most turbulence-related accidents occur when passengers are not strapped into their seats. Morgan Smith’s best tip is to always fasten your seat belt and not place your drink on your laptop.
An additional tip is to sit further forward in the aircraft as the turbulence is experienced milder there.
