A new app from the Sarnia-Lambton Local Immigration Partnership promises to provide newcomers with a wide range of resources at their fingertips.
The Welcome to Lambton app, created in collaboration with TMRRW Inc. and funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, is said to be a user-friendly guide available in eight languages that will help support newcomers to the region as they try to navigate their way around their new surroundings.
Featuring an integrated translation component, the app connects its users with a variety of community programs and settlement services, provides pre- and post-arrival checklists and also gives assistance on important tasks such as how to find a home, how to search for a job and finding nearby access to childcare and healthcare.
The app will also be used as a tool for service providers, sponsors and other supporting newcomers to Lambton County.
Warden Kevin Marriott said the app is yet another tool to welcome newcomers to the region.
“Lambton County has a long history of welcoming newcomers from all walks of life, and we are proud to have a welcoming, supportive community here,” Marriott said. “To make sure all newcomers to Lambton County feel valued and supported, we need to ensure they have access to the resources and tools they need to settle and participate within our community. The Welcome to Lambton app will help us accomplish that.”
All personal information collected in the app is confidential and certain anonymous information – such as demographic and service access info – will be used to help ensure the needs of newcomers are being met and will inform decisions regarding service and program delivery.
The Welcome to Lambton app is available through the App Store and the Google Play Store.
