An economist who has seen several economic bubbles Sixten Korkman believes that a recession is ahead, but that in itself does not worry him. Instead, he is worried about the recession in relation to the war in Ukraine.
– We are living in a much more dangerous time than ever since the Second World War. We are dealing with an energy crisis and food shortages and the acceleration of inflation in these difficult conditions, Korkman listed.
Korkman said in Thursday’s A-talk that the background of the war in Ukraine is a broader battle of ideas.
– It’s not about the troops fighting each other over some ground, but there is a battle of ideas in the background. We are living through some kind of cold war again.
According to Korkman, the fear is that the recession threatens Europe’s united support for Ukraine.
– The big fear is whether this unity will be preserved in Europe when a cold winter comes and purchasing power weakens and there is a shortage of energy and the electricity does not work. Will there be widespread protest movements, which we have already seen in some countries. I believe that it will not happen in this country, Korkman said.
Korkman said he hopes that Europe will have a broad understanding of what is being fought in the war in Ukraine.
– Here we are fighting for the world of values that is important to us.
