One of the two people who were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of gross illegal intelligence activities has been released.
The person is still suspected of aiding and abetting serious intelligence activities, the Prosecutor’s Office writes in a press release.
The arrest took place at six o’clock this Tuesday morning, when several police officers simultaneously entered the home in an affluent residential area in the Stockholm area where the couple lives. Two helicopters from the Armed Forces were also used in the operation.
One of the persons was arrested for gross illegal intelligence activities against Sweden and against a foreign power. The other person was arrested for aiding and abetting the same. Both deny wrongdoing.
According to documents submitted to the district court, the crime directed at Sweden must have been going on since 2014 until the arrest. The crime, which is directed against a foreign power, must have been ongoing from January 2013 until the arrest.
By Friday at the latest, the prosecutor must decide whether the person who is still in custody should be requested to be detained or released.
