While the world focused on the developments in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, a statement came to increase the tension in the Korean Peninsula. Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, said that pressure and sanctions will fuel the country’s grudge and hatred, and will act as a hanging rope for the United States and South Korea.
CHALLENGING POSSIBLE ADDITIONAL SANCTIONS
After North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile test on 18 November, sanctions against Pyongyang came back to the agenda of the world public opinion. Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un and Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, has defied the United States and South Korea despite possible additional sanctions. Reminding that the USA and South Korea have put their own independent sanctions on their agenda in his written statement, Kim Yo Jong described the Seoul administration, which he accused of following Washington on sanctions, as “the loyal dog and supporter of the USA”.
“THEY WILL WORK FOR THEM AS AN EXECUTION ROPE”
Making statements about former South Korean leader Moon Jae-in, Kim said, “At least, Seoul was not our target when Moon Jae-in was in power.” Referring to the cooperation between the United States and South Korea, Kim said, “The US and South Korean supporters are desperate for North Korea. Sanctions and pressures will fuel the grudge and hatred of our country and will act as a hanging rope for them,” he said.
