Enormous news of joy for the Swedish star skaters – now a big rain of money awaits: “Is a big sum!”

The prize money in the Biathlon World Cup is increasing – and significantly so.
The increase not least affects the Swedish riders, who receive the news with joy.
– I think it is absolutely right, says Mona Brorsson to SVT Sport.

Elvira Öberg, Sebastian Samuelsson and Hanna Öberg are some of the Swedish skaters who earned the most money during last year’s season. But during the coming season, there will probably be even more. The biggest difference is that 30 skaters instead of 20 and eight relay teams instead of six get to share in the prize money during the 2022/2023 season.

The announcement is hailed by the stars

At the same time, all placements from place 7-30 receive more prize money than before.

The announcement is welcomed with open arms by the Swedish riders.
– I think it is absolutely the right way to prioritize. First expand who can take part in the prize money and in the next step increase the amount even for the best. I think it indicates good values, says Mona Brorsson to SVT Sport.

For a skater like Mona Brorsson, the difference is big, as she rarely places herself in the top 6, but who, on the other hand, most often makes the top 30. Last year it was 380,000 kroner for Brorsson, but the same result in the coming season would instead bring in 514 000 kroner.

“Senseful prioritization”

In every single individual world cup, the prize money has now increased by 20 percent, and in total the international biathlon federation will pay out close to 100 million kroner during the coming season.
– I think it is a sensible priority. A good increase, the IBU have been good at increasing the prize money at regular intervals over the years. If I finish third overall like I did last year, it’s 7,000 euros more just there, says Sebastian Samuelsson.
