Kiruna AIF is in a precarious position both on and off the ice.
The club – which is housed in HockeyEttan – is under serious financial pressure and on Tuesday went out and appealed for help.
Then they answered for a fatal blunder to say the least.
Kiruna AIF is helplessly last in HockeyEttan Norra after losing all 12 games that have taken place so far, while conceding a whopping 61 goals. But the club also has problems off the ice as they are heavily employed financially.
Fatal mistake
As a result of the financial problems, they went out on Tuesday and appealed to supporters and sponsors for help through a swish fundraiser.
“Kiruna AIF Ice Hockey has had a difficult season 22/23, both sportingly and financially. We are in GREAT need of your help to be able to continue the business. Are you able to help us? Both private and corporate, you are welcome with a contribution, big or small,” writes the club.

However, there was a problem. Instead of posting the phone number that went to Kiruna AIF, another number was posted. Where did that number go? To city rivals Kiruna IF, who play in the same series. The mistake was discovered after about 15 minutes, which led to the post being taken down from the club’s website and social channels.
“Kind of them”
A while later, the post was posted again, but then with the correct phone number.
When Kiruna IF’s sporting director Thomas Jatko finds out that the rival posted their number, he takes it all as a joke.
– It was kind of them. I guess they accidentally entered the swish number we used when we hosted the district championship together. It was shared, although we were the ones who took care of it. But they will probably get their money if it turns out that someone managed to swipe that number, he says to the newspaper NSD.

He also hopes that the situation will be resolved for the club despite the rivalry.
– I wish them no harm. I played for them from the time I was four, until the merger, the clubs also have a good relationship today. So I hope they solve it, he concludes.
