An aid worker has been killed in an ambush in the province of Cabo Delgado in northern Mozambique, according to the French aid organization Solidarités Internationales. According to local media, another four people are said to have been killed.
The aid worker was a Mozambican man in his 30s, says a spokesperson for the organization. Details of the other four are missing.
The French organization Solidarités Internationales is present in 23 countries and came to Cabo Delgado after a jihadist uprising in the province in 2017.
Several thousand soldiers from neighboring countries have since assisted Mozambique in pushing back the rebels. After all, the jihadist threat remains.
So far, the conflict has claimed more than 4,400 lives, including around 2,000 civilians, according to the organization Acled. Around one million people have been forced to flee.
