An earthquake has shaken Indonesia’s main island of Java. Many deaths are reported as well as scores of injured. The quake shook the western part of the island – the areas south of the capital Jakarta – at 1pm on Monday afternoon local time.
Already at an early stage there was talk of at least ten dead and since then the number has grown gradually. The epicenter of the quake was at the city of Cianjur.
The city’s major hospital has so far counted 46 dead, announces the top manager at Indonesia’s national emergency agency. There are also around 700 people with injuries.
