We don’t always think about it, but our skin makes us feel it. With the cold and the drier weather, she feels tight: it is therefore time to change her moisturizer. Which one to choose ? How to adapt it according to your skin type? Advice from Marie Jourdan, dermatologist and member of the Doctissimo expert committee.

Cold, rain, icy wind… With the arrival of the first cold spells, the skin of the face remains exposed to the harsher climate and falling temperatures. Should I change my day cream on this occasion? And if so, how to choose it to protect your skin well?

    We change cream in winter

The skin is an organ that reacts to the external environment“explains Marie Jourdan first of all.”In summer, we often just wash our face and put on a serum and with sunscreen, that’s enough. There, with winter coming, our skin tends to be drier and will therefore need to be more hydrated.“confirms the dermatologist. In winter, we adapt our beauty routine and opt for more moisturizing, more “cocooning” products.

The day cream, more protective against the cold

To do this, choose a moisturizer with a barrier effect, which will have a greater moisturizing effect. Marie Jourdan advises “a cream that contains low and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid but also humectants such as glycerin, for a moisturizing effect on the one hand, but which also prevents dehydration, on the other hand“.

    Take care of your skin

With the cold, it is also crucial to protect your skin, when it tends to rosacea. “Indeed, the sudden changes in temperature, when going from a hot environment to the cold outside, promotes redness and rosacea. To prevent this, you must opt for a high tolerance cream (hypoallergenic), which can be tinted green” adds Dr. Jourdan.

Finally, for skin with eczema or irritation, cleansing soaps can dry out the skin. People prone to this type of skin problem can therefore choose cleansing oils. Their advantage: they cleanse and respect the protective hydrolipidic film on the skin.“concludes the specialist.
