At least ten people have died in connection with a prison riot in Ecuador’s capital Quito, the prosecutor’s office in the country says.
The violence erupted after the authorities announced that two prisoners would be moved to a high-security prison.
About 400 inmates have been killed in violence at Ecuador’s prisons since February 2021. Local authorities blame the wave of violence on rival gangs with ties to Mexican drug cartels.
