An orange warning for snowfall is in place over parts of Götaland’s east coast, where it started to snow during the night towards Saturday, mainly in a stretch from Oskarshamn and a bit to the south.
During Saturday morning, SMHI reported a snow depth of 25 centimeters in Oskarshamn. In Orrefors the corresponding figure was 11 centimeters and in Hoburg on Gotland 12 centimeters.
The snowfall will continue to be heaviest along the east coast, according to meteorologist Therese Fougman.
– It’s pushing on and it’s moving a little north, so it’s not certain that Oskarshamn will get this strongest gust all day, but it will shift a little north, she says.
Gradually fades
During the evening, the storm is expected to gradually subside and the winds to subside, but it is expected to continue snowing on Sunday.
In orange warning, there is a risk of very limited access on roads. On the E22 between Västervik and Oskarshamn, the road conditions were very difficult at times during Saturday.
– You hope that people think about it, do I have to go out and drive or can I wait? That you think before. Plan a little, and allow extra time if you are going a long way, says Therese Fougman.
“Awkward until Monday”
According to Deana Bajic, meteorologist at SVT, the weather problems will continue over the weekend:
– It will be difficult weather until Monday. We have many warnings for snowfall in southern Sweden. We have a low pressure spinning over southern Götaland and it will remain for quite some time, she says and continues:
– In connection with the low pressure, there is snowfall over Östersund, and we have a fresh south-easterly wind blowing over Östersund. It generates snow cannons over the water, therefore the snowfall may be more heavy in the coming days.
In Kalmar, there may be up to 35 cm of snow locally.
– You can count on traffic disruptions and that can affect power lines.
During Sunday, the snowfall will spread over Svealand, Götaland and Gävleborg. A yellow warning has also been issued in Skåne.
– The snow moves north during Sunday and it could be difficult in Stockholm on Monday morning, including on the E4.
