On Sunday, the much talked about World Cup in soccer begins in Qatar.
According to a new survey from Sifo – which Unibet is behind – where the Swedes have had their say, 28% will follow the championship from the TV sofa.
You have also had to state which people you prefer to watch the WC with – and there are mainly two names that stand out.
Host country Qatar hosts Ecuador when the World Cup kicks off on Sunday. It is a World Cup where the Swedish national team, as you know, is not present after the playoff loss against Poland earlier in the year.

Considering that the Swedish national team lacks representation in the championship, it is not a wild guess that the viewing figures drop – at least from the Swedish side – but of course there are those who will follow the tournament regardless.

In a national survey from Sifo that Unibet had carried out, it appears that 26% of the Swedish population will follow the WC via their television set.

Another interesting number is the one about which team the Swedes will keep an extra thumb for in Sweden’s absence. There, our Danish neighbors win in superior style with 34% of the vote, ahead of England which landed on 9%.
Glenn and Zlatan at the top
But perhaps the most interesting point highlighted in the survey is the question of who the Swedes prefer to share the TV couch with when watching the World Cup, because there are two names that share the top spot on the list.

At 15% each, it’s the profile Glenn Hysen and the superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic which shares first place with whom the Swede prefers to watch the World Cup with. Then found Kosovar Asllaniclosely followed by the former national team captains Lars Lagerbäck and Pia Sundhage.

It is also worth noting that in Western Sweden, as many as 30% have stated that they would prefer to share a TV sofa with Glenn Hysén, who is obviously immensely popular in and around his hometown of Gothenburg.
