FUEL DISCOUNT. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced the creation of new exceptional aid for 50% of French households. It will start on January 1, 2023, as soon as the current fuel discount ends.
[Mis à jour le 18 novembre 2022 à 09h29] The government is looking closely at a new scheme to help road users face the rising cost of fuel, from January 1, 2023, when the fuel discount will have disappeared. And precisely, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne gave some details in an interview with the newspaper The echoes. We learn in particular that this next rebate should be called “worker fuel allowance“and that she would benefit”half of the householdsThis new aid, which is supposed to soften the end of the current government rebate, will benefit households in the first five deciles of income, in other words, half of the households. It will be set up from January 1, 2023. For long home-to-work journeys, the executive is still working on other solutions, more suitable and more targeted.
As a reminder and as planned by the government, the fuel discount of 30 cents will drop to 10 euro cents from November 16 to December 31, 2022. The discount offered by Totalit goes from 20 centimes to 10 euro cents on the same schedule. These two aids will end on the January 1, 2023. This rebate concerns fishing diesel, non-road diesel (GNR), gasoline (SP95, SP98-E5, SP-95-E10), liquefied petroleum gas fuel (LPG-c), vehicle natural gas (CNG) under compressed (CNG) or liquefied (LNG) form, superethanol (E85) and diesel ethanol (ED95). Direct consequence: fuel prices are on the rise again. In a Total service station, the price per liter now reaches €1.80 (with the two discounts), €1.90 in a station of another firm.
The fuel discount benefits from a “decreasing” calendar until it is completely extinguished at the end of December 2022. Here are the dates to remember:
- Fitness 30 euro cents from September 1 to November 15, 2022
- Fitness 10 euro cents from November 16 to December 31, 2022
- Deleted from January 1, 2023
In a press release published on July 22, 2022, the Total group indicated a drop in fuel prices at its service stations. “From September 1 to November 1, TotalEnergies will lower the price of petroleum fuels sold in stations by twenty euro cents per liter (…) then by ten euro cents per liter from November 1 to December 31”, explains the group in this press release.
This discount of 20 euro cents will finally be extended until November 15. It will drop to 10 cents from November 16 to December 31, before completely extinguishing on January 1, 2023.
No change in sight at the pump for motorists! The discount of 30 cents per liter of fuel applies exactly the same way as that of 18 cents in force since April 1, 2022. It is applied automatically at the time of payment, at the cash desk or by credit card at the pump. Contrary to what has been announced, the price displayed at the pump is ultimately the one you will ultimately pay. There is therefore no calculation to be made or discount to be requested from the pump, making the operation more legible and simple for the consumer. All fuels are concerned, unleaded 95, 95 E10, 98, diesel such as E85, liquefied natural gas or LPG. Here is the device summarized in three points:
- The measure took effect on Friday, April 1, 2022 and is valid until the end of summer.
- The National Assembly voted on July 27, 2022 to extend the system, the discount increasing to 30 cents in September and October before being lowered to 10 cents for the last two months of 2022.
- This discount measure of 18 cents/litre of fuel increases to 30 cents in September and is valid on all fuels, even E85 at the already lower price. If you drive on diesel with your diesel vehicle, you are therefore just as concerned as if you drive on unleaded petrol.
- The discount is immediate for the motorist. The price after discount is displayed directly at the pump and via the totem panels at the entrance.
No need to be a big wheeler or to justify business trips. Anyone can benefit from this feature, whether you have a store loyalty card or not. This measure concerns both households and businesses and is valid for all fuels, diesel, unleaded petrol such as E85. The discount is displayed directly on the totems present in service stations.
Are all fuels concerned? The fuel discount does not apply to heating oil, as indicated on the website of the Ministry of the Economy. Attention, the discount of 30 cents only applies to metropolitan France. Corsica and overseas territories will not be affected. In question, lower taxes on the price of fuel.
