The UN Secretary General called on rich countries to stop blaming each other.
The UN climate conference is scheduled to end today in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. However, as usual, the organizers warned in advance that the final document will hardly be ready before the night before Saturday at the earliest.
According to the UN, the current means of keeping global warming at a maximum of 1.5 degrees are not enough to begin with. According to the World Organization, the temperature will rise by 2.8 degrees by the end of the century with these actions.
Secretary General of the UN Antonio Guterres on Thursday once again called on rich industrialized countries to stop blaming each other and start working.
– The time when we talked about losses and financial losses has passed. Action is needed now. Blaming others is the path to mutually assured destruction, Guterres reminded.
The climate negotiations are supposed to agree, among other things, on helping states that have experienced destruction due to climate change (loss and damage finance), emissions trading and reducing the use of coal.
