In Pokémon GO, legendary monsters are particularly popular with trainers. It’s all the more annoying when you have to leave it behind in the wild. But that’s exactly what a player had to experience recently. We at MeinMMO took a look at what happened.
What Pokemon is it about? In Pokémon GO there are not only the usual Pokémon, such as Bulbasaur or Pikachu, but also so-called legendary Pokémon. These are particularly sought after by players, as they are often slightly stronger and therefore good candidates for raids or the GO battle league.
Typically, these Legendary Pokémon, which include Mewtwo, can only occasionally be encountered in Level 5 Raids or obtained from Rank 20 through GO Battle League rewards. But just a few days ago, the Rocket boss Giovanni also brought a strong, legendary Crypto Pokémon to his team.
However, since the introduction of the Daily Adventure Smoke, Trainers now also have a chance to encounter certain specimens in the wild. But such an encounter caused a lot of disappointment for a player. We’ll show you why.
That’s why a trainer has to leave Galar-Arktos behind
What is the Adventure Smoke? Once per day, Adventure Smoke gives Trainers a chance to receive special spawns for 15 minutes when they move. In addition to various monsters that spawn every day, with a bit of luck you will also encounter rarer specimens or legendary Pokémon such as the Galar birds Arktos, Zapdos and Lavados.
But these encounters are correspondingly rare and the chances of actually securing it are slim. That’s why trainers are particularly happy when they encounter such a specimen and don’t want to miss the opportunity to catch it. But now a trainer reports that he had to leave a Galar bird in the wild.
That’s why he couldn’t catch the bird: As the reddit user daddy1973 explains in his post, he was out with the Adventure Smoke when a Galar Arktos suddenly spawned. It was the first time he encountered this bird, so of course he wanted to catch it. But that just wasn’t possible.
As you can see in his picture, the legendary Pokémon spawned directly in a PokéStop. Thus, clicking was also not possible by rotating and zooming, which is why daddy1973 ultimately had no choice but to leave the rare Galar Pokémon behind.
So he writes disappointed on reddit: “Today I saw my first Galar Arktos. It spawned right into that PokéStop. I couldn’t click it by zooming or rotating it.”
By the way: A trainer reveals an alleged trick in Pokémon GO on how to catch the Galar birds:
Trainers in Pokémon GO supposedly know a trick to make it easier to catch the legendary Galar birds
Has this happened to other players as well?
daddy1973’s post drew a lot of attention on reddit. In the meantime (as of November 16, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.) he already has more than 1,200 upvotes. The comments also show that other trainers have had this or similar problems with their spawns (via reddit.com):
Other trainers instead try to cheer daddy1973 up by reminding him how bad the capture rates for Galar birds are. For example, Whosdaman writes (via reddit.com): “If it makes you feel better, it would have run away anyway.”
Other problems with the Galar birds: Another issue addressed in the comments is specific loading issues. The user OobeBanoobe points out that you should definitely download the assets so that the Galar birds are loaded correctly on the way.
It happened to him himself that he only saw a glowing ball and the spawn finally disappeared again because the Pokémon could not be fully loaded in time. This is how he writes:
Another issue to be warned about that your post reminded me of is downloading all assets in the advanced settings section.
I recently activated a daily smoke and was 99% sure one of the birds would spawn as a glowing light while the game was trying to download the asset. The light de-spawned before the asset loaded and I couldn’t tap the light to bring up the catch screen. As soon as I got home, all the objects were downloaded.

Here we explain how you can download the assets in the game and save data at the same time.
It remains to be seen whether Niantic will improve these problems again in the future so that such unfavorable spawns no longer occur. If there is any new information, you can find out from us on MeinMMO.
Have you ever had such spawns that you couldn’t click because they were covered by a PokéStop? And did you find a way to catch them after all? Let us know here on MeinMMO in the comments and talk to other trainers about this topic.
