Russia’s massive missile attack has knocked out power in large parts of Ukraine.

Now the government in Kyiv is sending a warning to the population.

– Lust! During power outages, the electric flight alarms do not work, the authorities write on Twitter.

15 energy facilities around Ukraine are said to have been knocked out after 100 Russian rockets exploded around the country.

There is now a nationwide power outage affecting the vast majority of regions, according to the monitoring organization Netblocks. Over seven million Ukrainians are said to be without electricity, according to AFP.

Half of Kiev residents without electricity

In Kyiv, more than half of the three million inhabitants will be without power, according to mayor Vitaly Klitschko.

Now the residents are being warned.

“Lust! During power outages, the electric flight alarms do not work,” the authority writes on Telegram.

The residents of Kiev are asked to keep an eye on whether it is the flight warning or not via radio, the authority’s own app or Telegram channel.

“Please take care of each other and be alert. Stay in the shelters when the flight alarms are activated”.

The national grid operator Ukrenergo says that the situation is “critical” and that the damage to the electricity system is most serious in the country’s northern and central regions, writes The Guardian.

“The Energy Authority has turned off the power in several places in Ukraine as an emergency measure. It is necessary to balance the power grid and avoid accidents. At least half of the customers in the capital must be without electricity,” writes Klitschko on Telegram.

“Prepare power banks”

In Lviv, 80 percent of the population is without electricity and in Ternopil, 90 percent are without power.

“Due to the lack of electricity, the heating is temporarily switched off. There is no hot water. We have started the diesel generators,” he says.

Ternopil Mayor Volodymyr Trush fears that the national blackout could last for some time to come.

– Prepare power banks and other portable power sources, he tells Pravda.
