Artificial intelligence can be used to generate fake videos that then look real. Intel is now developing an AI that should recognize such videos. You can read about how this works in this article.
Imagine: A well-known actor appears in a video. But the video isn’t real at all, because the actor’s face was put over the face of another with the help of AI. So the video is someone completely different.
How real such a “fake” can look is shown by a video with Bruce Willis, who was not even present when the film was shot, which the colleagues at GameStar are reporting on.
This technique is also called “deepfake”. Intel is now developing an AI with which such so-called “deepfakes” should be recognized quickly and reliably.
FakeCatcher is designed to help unmask “fake” people
What exactly did Intel introduce? The company has developed a project together with an artificial intelligence, which goes by the name “FakeCatcher”. This is a technology specifically designed to detect fake videos such as deepfakes. Supposedly one wants to achieve an accuracy of 96% within milliseconds.
How exactly is this supposed to work? Intel explains that many other tools that try to detect deepfakes try to analyze the raw data in the files. Intel wants to take a different approach with FakeCatcher. Because FakeCatcher should be trained so that it can recognize real people. The AI should be able to pay attention to details that distinguish people from images. This includes certain movements or the blood flow to parts of the body.
Can you try it? No, not yet. But Intel is developing a web-based platform that could be accessible to everyone in the future. It is also not yet known whether Intel will only make FakeCatcher available to professional users or also to normal consumers.
A group of researchers now wanted to test what an AI is capable of. Because they wanted to try out what happens when an AI is supposed to develop dangerous side effects for a drug:
Researchers want to prove what an evil AI can do – It designs 40,000 chemical weapons in 6 hours
Artificial intelligence is already playing a role in gaming
Artificial intelligence is also supposed to get better and better in games. For example, Sony is currently developing an AI that is intended to make artificial companions and your opponents smarter. This could make games in particular where you need the support of AI players much easier.
But not everything could be made easier by AI: Raid bosses are considered a great challenge in MMOs, especially if they have just been released. But over time, players will learn all the mechanics and defeat the bosses in their sleep. Microsoft is now said to be working on an artificial intelligence that should prevent you from simply killing every raid boss in the future:
